As the 4chanization of the internet proceeds, the question arises: is it morally acceptable to be cruel to a person--and unboundedly so--so long as the cruelty stops as soon as the person accepts their predicament as funny?

There is a better way to state this question--a moral question which I think humanity has never, in fact, yet had to confront--but I am tired and am going to bed.

The fundamentals of Anarchism - direct action for a stateless society, based on decentralization and federation, common ownership and self management, where all will be free and equal. This entails direct, participatory democracy by all-inclusive workers' and community councils in administering the social ownership and control of the means of production, distribution and exchange. As Mahatma Gandhi pointed out,"The ends never justify the means. The means determine the ends."Aldous Huxley observed,"The more violence, the less revolution."Therefore, the nonviolent direct action of Mahatma Gandhi , Dr. Martin Luther King and Aun San Suu Kyi is the most effective way to bring about the transition. The contributions of Anarcho-Pacifism and Anarcha-Feminism are highly beneficial.
I support the revolutionary general strike ,work place occupations and total workers' control worldwide.
The main forms of Anarchism historically have been :-
Individualism –Thoreau , Stirner ,
Mutualism – Proudhon
Collectivism – Bakunin
Communism – Kropotkin (not authoritarian Marxism-Leninism)
Anarcho-Syndicalism - Peloutier
Anarcho-Pacifism
Anarcha-Feminism
Eco-Anarchism

http://flag.blackened.net/revolt/anarchism/index.html

N.B. I am not citing all the people quoted as (A)narchists , but I DO consider Gandhi an Anarcho-Pacifist as he wished to see central government replaced , after Independence , by a federation of village councils .

The crushes! [8.26.08 @ 12:40am]

literarycrushes

[til_tomorrow]
I honestly have this thing for troubled male characters in books while crushing on strong female characters. I love women who take center stage, the anti damsels in distress because they make me proud to me a woman. Maybe in some way I’m loving them because they were the opposite of me growing up. I love the “lost souls” as well because in my crazy mind I want to keep them safe and say everything is OK (I’m a nerd that way). So here are my two favorite characters that will forever live on…

"The Lost Soul"

Caleb Trask of East of Eden – because he’s the troubled everyday man who just wants to be loved and is jealous of his brother (like most siblings) because everyone likes him better. The thing about Caleb is that he understands all this and doesn’t mind but sometimes jealousy and “meaness” gets in his way. But he does not blame it on anyone, he knows it’s his own fault. He is “not good” but in many ways he is almost too good and because he is not perfect (like all of us) he is the one character I would definitely keep close to my heart.

The Anti-Damsel in Distress

Jane of Jane Eyre of course. I am absolutely in love with Jane. She was "Daria" before the makers of "Daria" ever came up with the concept of making Jane animated (ha!). But seriously, Jane is my girl. She is described as very plain and not at all beautiful but her beauty comes from her strong personality. I love her sarcasm, I love the way she never backs down on anything and anyone, and the way she never gives up. I love how she doesn't want anyone to rescue her. You know if she was stuck in some high tower she'd find a way to get down by her self without that knight in shining armor. She's girl power before it became popular.

We got ourselves a kitten yesterday. Our little baby girl is adorable. We don't yet have a name for her, we're waiting to see more of her personality once she gets used to being here and around the other cat we already have.

STOLEN 2000 Civic Si [8.25.08 @ 2:52pm]

simplefears
[ mood | angry ]

My sister's 2000 Civic Si was stolen this morning from her apartment on her first day of school at UCF. Some kind of welcome to Orlando, huh?

If you see a black 2000 Civic Si with the clear coat pealing on the hood, tint, bbs rims, the headlights blacked out, and a newer Si badge (8th gen? version), please call the police. VIN: 1HGEM115YL055235

It also had a personalized tag that I'm sure the thieves threw away... it was a UCF tag that reads MS SI. It means a lot to her because not many girls drive these hot little cars and she just loved it.

So if you live in the Colonial / Rouse area and find a discarded tag, it has sentimental value please contact me or the Orange County Sheriff. It means more to us to get it back than you will get from parting it out...

Thanks for donating your eyes.

The Autodidact's Song

Let me kill you.
I will sing with the song leftover.
Let us know the utility of wine.
Alright. [Am I already bare (and printed)?]
Alright.

Let me then declare my blood spilled by the fleas on the floor.
Let me declare I can tell you Kant in German, I can paint your portrait,
let it be known. The boxes of my books I have carried,
go ahead, try and lift them.

I am a world unto myself better than the world out of myself
and you will like it more. Excuse me.
I am the triumvirate.
Excuse me.

Listen, this is my brow unfurled. This is the very stone
I took from Death Valley, through which I walked
alone -- are you at peace? What is the most
important thing in the world? Elaborate.

Do you have these moths in your closet that eat what you write?
What did you do tonight? There is a dagger that I have been
sharpening on myself, conjugating in my sleep;
I am so tense. I will sing with the crumbs on the cutting room floor.

Do you not understand yet? You are the library. I will love you
and put you on my shelf until I care to read you again.
Will you not be still and bound? Will you not be ink and page?
Will you be the comma, the gentle nudge?

You will be the parentheses and hold my shoulders.

OK I will finally come clean about this:

has anyone ever read Anne Perry's Victorian detective stories? I'm pretty much smitten with her Inspector Thomas Pitt. Ridiculously tall, poorly dressed, crazy-haired, and genius. Love him!

Meet Rufus [8.24.08 @ 5:33pm]

baaaaabyanimals

[setauuta]
So, my husband and I met up with his parents yesterday and discovered that they've adopted a new puppy. Rufus is almost 4 months old, and a pug-terrier mix (he's an "oops!" puppy - his mom is a purebred pug who had forbidden relations with a terrier while pregnant with another pug's puppies. It's like a soap opera!), so my in-laws were able to adopt him for not-horribly-expensive. Naturally, meeting the puppy, I had to take pictures.

Meet Rufus! )

Only two pictures for now, but the next time I'm down there I'll get more, especially of him playing with his "sister", a Boston Terrier named Domino. :)

Let the weaving craze begin! [8.24.08 @ 9:41pm]

[ music | Rosie Thomas - It Don't Matter to the Sun | Scrobbled by Last.fm ]

A few weeks ago, I got inspired by this post on the Threadbangers blog to have a go at weaving and maybe make myself a scarf. I made a search for more tutorials on very simple home-made looms and weaving and I found lots of stuff, but not much helpful information (at least for me, a very beginner). After finding some instructions on making a loom out of cardboard (sorry, I can't find the link) I found myself making things up as I went on. Only three rows of weft later and I came to the conclusion that I was doing it wrong and gave up.
Today, I opend my Youtube page to see that the Make Magazine channel has posted a tutorial by Travis Meinolf on making a loom out of notecards and a how-to on weaving with it. The only thing that he doesn't explain, though, is what to do with the lose ends of the yarn when you run out and introduce a new one and also how to finish off your woven fabric. If anyone knows how to weave, please share what's missing with the rest of us in a comment :).

I've just finished "Mi País Inventado" by Isabel Allende . It's a general commentary on her life and novels . I really enjoy her obra ! She is the niece of Salvador Allende , the former Socialist President of Chile whose democratically elected government was overthrown on 9.11 in 1973 by the brutal military dictatorship of General Pinochet , a coup which tortured and massacred many thousands and which was backed by the C.I.A. , needless to say . Although she shares her uncle's idealism , her novels aren't exclusively political by any means . She follows the tradition of Magic Realism , so popular in South America . She now lives in San Francisco with her Gringo husband , Willie , who is fascinating in his own right !
I'm about half way through her works so far written . Until I can get more , I'm going to fill in with "Crónica de una Muerte Anunciada" by Colombian Gabriel García Márquez , whose "Cien Años de Soledad" impressed me greatly .
